WIPS

I did some one day sketch and scuplts.
This is based on the statue of Saint Bartholomew, there is a "skinned" statue of him in Duomo, Milan Cathedra. I tried to do the muscle fibers and thought of the Hermit Tarot card for a base idea.

This a character I was thinking about making, something with a traditional Japanese theater sense.

I wanted to combine a Jellyfish and an Octopus, I need to redo the paint what not. I made the blue area of her body see through. I need to make some fish to put in her still.

I am working on some animation and more HDR scenes. Like Hester's death and doing something with Rosa and the Djinn. I am going to attempt to make the Djinn do some kick boxing or something. I just need to go refrence hunting to find the best video to use. I think I might make a Green Lantern character in the animated series style; sense that won't be around. I was thinking about the woman from the indigo tribe. I need to sit and figure out how to make her glow, it would be a good challenge and add to my stylized modeling set. And I have some idea for Hush in the Beware the Batman style.

Don't let it end

Young Justice is an amazing show, it does not talk down to its audience, it is smart and has wonderful animation. Cartoons aren't just for kids; they are a medium to tell stories and inspire people to make greater things. Like Doctor Who and Ghost in the Shell, this show deserves to be considered among the top of the viewing for all ages. I choose my career in part of the Saturday morning cartoons I would watch, Gundam Wing, Animaniacs, and Cowboy Bebop. I see what is on now and I shudder. Cartoons, Animated Shows don't HAVE to be dumb; they don't NEED to be stupid and simple minded. Young Justice is proof of that. I believe that cartoons aren't just for kids, with intelligent writing and wonderful imagery a cartoon can be enjoyed by anyone.

These shows, Young Justice, Green Lantern, are of the highest quality of animated story telling today, they are smart and well written. I think it is a real shame to limit the viewing to ONLY Adventure Time and SpongeBob, when these shows are so much more than just a "stupid show"; they are amazing stories and deserve to be shown and completed. To be made and create a generation of people who aspire to make more cartoons like these.

sign and prove that cartoons are more than mindless dribble.

Djinn Finished

I posed the hands, fixed the paint, touched up the body, feet and hands and lined up the hair pieces.

The background turned out okay, the ground and two rocks I modeled and the environment is the HDR image I found online and used for my lights in Zbrush.

I didn't do a lot of work on Friday, I was uploading some of my work to CGhub and sending out resumes to the four winds and wait. I went to see Wreck-It Ralph with the family. I loved the short at the beginning; it made me want to do some storyboards and actually animate something. The movie is for a generation of gamers and it was really well done. Anyone who knows: up up down down left right b a start by heart will enjoy, I keep trying to see how many games character I could find.

WIP: Posed Djinn

I have him posed, I still need to do some majors corrections to the body, mostly the hands, have them in a crushing pose or clawing motion. I need to aline the hair accessorys as well. I have some ideas for a backgorund but that will be a semi experiment in terror.

I am thinking about doing a mid battle scene. Either have him a Rosa duke it out, or make some simple creature soilders. Maybe do both.
This is a quick BPR render of the model, I have the normal material for this render. When I had the Sketch Gummy Material (the material on the ones above) on it did not render well.

WIP Male Scuplt: Djinn

I model out the Djinn/Tiger/Warrior guy, I needed to practice my Male Sculpts and I was able to get a decent base out of the mess too. I was also able to make a semi decent mouth (open and teeth). I still need to make a pose for the model, I was thinking something kung-fu movie/battle pose.

I need to work on my dread locks and some of the finer detail. My whole goal for this project was just to make a male character and get a decent base model for other projects.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was me trying to do some hardsurface robotic human interface; it turned into more or a medieval armor possession. I didn't really have any hard set plans for this model, I just let my mind wonder and did something.

I think the only why I can get a good hardsurface model out is if it is a type of Gundam model or a Zoids. Something that I completely robotic but with a humanoid base structure.

Quick Update: Working Ideas

http://vimeo.com/53200202

I have just updated my Reel on Vimeo. I replaced Maria; I feel that she was a little old, and kind of past the sell by date.

I added Rosa to the reel instead. I am still working on a low version on her so I decided to show some clips of me putting her into a different pose. I figured with Hester and Batman both with low poly models and textures I would show Rosa with 2 different poses in Zbrush.

I also added the entire video of me posing Rosa on Vimeo: http://vimeo.com/57070375

Hardsurface/Armor model I am working on. WIP: need to do the hair, detail in fabric, and a lot of little things.

I had planned to do the Shiva FFXIII model (I may do it, if for nothing else but for practice), but then I did some sketching and studied some images. I am going to treat this model as a test run, see what looks good and doesn't;  I am looking at the Porfessional Tips and Techniques for the pointers.

The Clean Sheet

2012 has passed. I look at ALL of my best works and doings and see what I did and where I need to improve and set my sights for next year.

Make a list of what I need to accomplish for 2013 (for my art):
  • Human body: Perfect Female Sculpt and do More male sculpts
  • SOMETHING with hardsurfaces i.e. Robotics, Metal
  • More HDR work and rendering
  • Work on lower ver models
  • More drawing.
  • Monsters, creatures,
  • Mouths from a Dynamesh Model, so I don't always have a closed mouth on the model.
I did some work over the Christmas break/season and finished Zatanna. I also added 4r5 to my system, the auto save feature is really nice, but I hate how the model disappears for a second when I reengage the software.

It was fun doing the frill/fabric on the corset.  Her hair was the hardest part, it just didn't look right. But then I looked at the Tpose of Rosa and realized, that it's because the face has nothing to it. No Expression
So I started posing and was shift through Tumblr, and found a image of Zatanna with a cool pose. The over all pose turned out fine but I realized the most important part and something I need to work on. Is the mouth. I need to find a way to sculpt the inside of the mouth for my models in Zbrush. Usually I do the inside of the mouth when I make a low poly version and texture it that way.

I did some drawing as well. Something I haven't done in a while; it was nice to do something outside of tech land.
