Project Progression

So here is the scene thus far for the Post Apocalypse character. I decided to forgo the dead creature it made the scene feel to cramp.  I have the textures set out and am getting ready to submit for the CGHUB challenge.

Mary is coming along, its kind of hard to do her crotch area minus Jesus, because a large portion of the folds are linked to how Jesus is on her lap. Chest, head and side cloth need to fixed still but it is coming along.

Here is the mech character so far, I really like him, I am still playing with the materials and texture. I want to add more detail to the body and texture to the parts but I might do that after I have the low model built and modify the textures in Photoshop. I am planning on using Fibermesh for hair and face. I think I did a good job getting the Metal Gear style down.
I started the alien and I want that priestly/paladin style to shine through. I think I need to sit down and redesign the armor and clothing. I want it have a peaceful holiness with a demonic appearance. That's about the best why I can describe the image I have in mind.

Characters and Creatures

I have been doing more sketching and drawing and found an interesting suggestion. Close your eyes and let you hand wander on the page and then make that scribble into something. I treat my scribbles as silhouettes for the characters I see

I think I will take one of these little guys and do some speed Sculpting. These are only a few of the batch I have done. I am really looking at hardsurafce design and was inspired by Metal Gear Rising style but more on that later

The Deity is okay so far, I don't know what but the Fibers don't seem to render properly and I think it looks wrong.

The Post Apocalypse scene is coming and going I have the scene laid out but I am not sure if I am will add the flying version of the creature. The scene seems to crowded as it is. Maybe a dead one in the sand to break up the sand behind the character.

Rosa's new pose is coming along I am not sure if it exactly what I had in mind. I wanted to do a new pose but I think this is just one those things that I did because I like posing a character and seeing the personality come out.

I have been looking at Metal Gear Rising and I love the style, the metallic anatomy of the characters. I really need to do some hardsurface work and I think I have a decent concept in mind. I looked through all of the concept art I could find of the Metal Gear Series. One of the sites I visit is http://www.creativeuncut.com/, it has all kinds of production art and concepts of games and character designs. And I have been analyzing the concepts and working them out.
Still in heavy WIP but I have high hopes, semi good start. I am jumping from Zbrush to XSI
I am working on the Pieta again and I am working on Mary, and lord the wrinkles and folds are painful but it has been fun. Fold-Zilla and Wrinkle-Soruas I have taken to calling her.

Here are some of the things I have been doing for my modeling class at CG Society.

I have seen a lot of amazing movies recently, I saw Rise of the Guardians and it was not what I thought it would be. There was a ton of action and interesting effects. I loved the way they made Jack Frost's ice act like lighting; fascinating idea to make the Tooth Fairy a humming bird. Les Miserables was interesting, I have never seen it before and it was well done. I feel like every Disney female character song came from Les Mis. Interesting Cinematography making everyone be off center and super focused.

Clockwork Man, Rosa, HDR work

I have done a TON of things and they have all turned out really well so far.

First: I finished my submission for the Train your Brain Contest and my Clockwork Man turned out really well. I have been work on this concept for so long and I feel that I have final gotten it down.
"Where does this piece go?" The Clockwork Man does not know where the turn key goes, the head or the heart. 2 of the most important pieces to the being a person are both missing one piece. So, where does the last piece go?

So I built him in Zbrush and Softimage, rigged and posed in Soft. Lighting, texture and color were done in Zbrush. I like him and I am really glad it turned out well. Even better than I had thought it would. I was planning on this one being a Hardsurafe study but it turned into more of an anatomy study.
Second: I have revisited Rosa. I look back at my old model and really, really hate myself for it but this time I got her down.

I still have a few odds and ends to add, but so far so good. I am work with Spotlight to texture and paint and I do not know how I lived without it. I want to make her "wet" so I am messing with modeling water on her skin. I want that out of the shower kind of wet and I really haven't tried anything like that in Zbrush before so I think it will be fun.

Third: I am trying more HDR work and what not. I want to do something with Faeris and I haven't found images online that I could use for good lighting that I like.
This isn't great, so I need to go hunting for some free HDR images and panoramas which isn't as easy as it sounds.

The Pietà: Michelangelo's Virgin Mary

The Pietà, a marble sculpture sculpted by  Michelango in 1499, is probably one of the most recognized sculptures in world. I have had trouble finding a complete set of photos depicting all angles of The Pietà so I just focused on the Virgin Mary.

I started the model in Softimage.

Here is my low poly model compared with the reference image on the right.

Here is my high poly model is on the left, matched with the reference.
